Staff and customers of Battlesteads in Wark, near Hexham, will be toasting the Geordie style on Saturday 21st January as they celebrate ‘Burns Night with a Geordie Twist’. Until 1296 Northumberland was part of Scotland and the team at Battlesteads take this connection very seriously. Steeped in tradition, Burns Night will be celebrated by Scots throughout the world and Battlesteads is welcoming them in to where the fire is warm, the ale is flowing and a traditional Burns Supper will be served up, hot and delicious. Chef Eddie Shilton will replicate an original 19th century menu created by then “celebrity chef” Meg Dodds for the first Edinburgh Burns Club meeting in the early 1800s. The four courses include: Het Kail, Rarebit, Het Joint and Ither-Orra Eattocks. All the usual Burns Night traditions will be honoured and Battlesteads will also hire the services of a superb Northumbrian Piper to entertain customers throughout the evening. The supper will cost just £25 per person and overnight accommodation packages are available from £150 per couple for customers who want to forget the drive home and enjoy themselves.
